From Ubin With Love

December 30, 2007 nahele Leave a comment

Somehow, it seems like if we ever do meet up, we’ll meet up so often in a week, which seems to be some sort of a make-up for the lack of meet-ups previously! Yes, I was out again with my JC mates, as Ubin this time, was our destination of choice.

We’re leavingg… On a bum boattt… (*Hums)

Me and my ride =)

It’s really been eons since I last came to Ubin. Say 3-4 years ago? Or maybe 5?? But yea, it sure was a tough job cycling up those horrible slopes once again. Horrible, yet fun!! Sure my thighs were aching like mad, screaming for me to just stop cycling and walk it up. But no! I had to accomplish cycling up at least some of the slopes!

Off the beaten track

With the first destination to Chek Jawa, I had no idea why the guys decided to veer off the directions as given by a police officer we found standing in a hut, causing us to enter a forest trail with loads of mozzies!!

Plus, I also have no idea where my tom-boyish garang-ness disappeared to, as I screamed like a girl when I came into contact with yes, the mud. Where did the chor-loh Geri disappeared to?!?! Sigh…

But thankfully, we managed to find our way out of the mozzie-infested forest, and onto the main road we went again, before we arrived at one of the small beaches.

A lovely respite for Yilin and Alvin who wished to wash their feet off the mud. For myself, I decided to continue bearing with it still =P

Casualties of mud.

It was not long before we did finally make our way to Chek Jawa!! And with a tap available for washing, how could I possible miss it?!?!

Ahh… Bliss =) Haha…

First up, the Visitor Centre.

Say cheese!

Then next: The Coastal Boardwalk.

It just seems really really lovely to enjoy the sights of nature. The cool breeze against the hot sun, a truly lovely experience.

Check out the smiles =)

And lastly: The Mangrove Boardwalk.

I feel like I’m in primary science class all over again.

And then, we spotted this:

As if all the cycling wasn’t enough, we decided that this is another challenge we should take up. While it sure was not an easy task, hell, the feeling of achievement was good =)

Plus, one can get to see a bird’s eye view of the area. And, I spotted some cute birds!!

Finally, a group picture of all of us!
(Pardon my messy hair though, it was too windyyyyy!!)

Finally, it was time to head back home, as we were feeling really tired. Hmm… But is it really so? Chee Yee suggested cycling to the other side of the island when we reached back ‘Headquarters’.

Not a bad idea though, as we discovered the Secret Garden.

And a scarecrow wannabe =P

But yes, finally finally, it was time to really go home.

Good night Ubin. I’ll see you another time =)
With love, from Geri

A Gift Exchange

December 29, 2007 nahele Leave a comment

A simple gathering (aka belated Christmas/advance New Year gathering) at Jiahui’s house meant some fun yet again with the good old friends from my poly days. It was really lovely seeing Nikki babe and Shiyun after so long! So in between the mouthfuls of food, which got us all stuffed up to our noses, there was lovely gossips and meaningful catch-ups!

And of course, who could miss out the gifts exchange?!

Everyone, meet Hed*gie, IM*H’s mascot my gift exchange, a hedgehog.

I gave it care.

My colleague gave it kisses.

But in the end, we still ended up strangling it =P

The Loof

More chill outs yet again, this time at The Loof.

With my first time being there, I was pretty intrigued by the open concept. Lovely place to people watch and just chill out. Plus, there was 1-for-1 drinks before 930pm for UOB cards. A nice excuse for me to get high, in which of course, I did. Haha =)

@ Bliss

Who would have thought that Joshua would ask me out for a quick meet-up yet again on his last day of work at the clinic in Compass Point?

Insistent on meeting up with me near my home, the only place I could think of for the both of us to chill was the Bliss Restaurant @ Punggol Park, the very place where I jog all the time. (It’s kind of interesting to note also that while I do stay nearby, I have never been there!)

A pretty comprehensive review here by the way.

Reaching there only at about 10pm, we were both surprised to see a place almost packed with people, and on a Thursday night no less! Joining in the fray, we ordered ourselves a couple of milkshakes and a brownie. It’s just a pity that we could only sit in the restaurant and not at the alfresco area. But hey, with nice company, how much can I complain? =)

The Christmas n Boxing Day ‘Party’

December 26, 2007 nahele Leave a comment

Besides the Sentosa trip which saw me catch up with some of my classmates, another dinner was planned where it was a fun time with another bunch of fellas. And with Jason in tow, chilling out is a must on the cards. So after dinner at Billy Bombers at Central, we decided to head off to Dempsey Hill!

With the help of public transport and a little walking, we’ve reached our destination.

Walking around and enjoying the lightings (for me at least), we finally settled in at Margaritas, a chic restaurant with the Mexican theme.

A group shot, and cheers to the Christmas season =)

We didn’t stay long in the end, as well, in some ways, the waiters/waitresses kept asking us if we wanted to order food, or order more drinks. So in the end, we decided to find a different type of entertainment. But first up, group shot again!

Smile =)

I think it was an amazing feat/feet that I was running about in my heels from Clarke Quay to Dempsey Hill and then to Orchard, that I finally thought that it was the time for me to retire. Heh… So yea, off I went while the guys hung around deciding on their next form of entertainment. But who knew that there was to be another session with them again on Boxing Day!

With a reservation at The Mind Cafe, it was a day of board games galore =)

First up, while waiting for Jason, it was the Sitting Ducks Gallery. Basically, just save as may of your ducks as possible!! And thankfully, with Chee Yee and Shunde deciding to target each other, most of the time, I was quite safe. And because of that, I think I won =P

Up next was Blokus. Mark as much squares as you can!!

An example of the progression of the game.

But man… You had no idea how much I cracked my brain over this. With the guys being territorial and trying to kill each other, they pretty much invaded my space, much to my chagrin…

As evidenced

Thankfully, I got the hang of it the second round, so it was not that miserable, haha…

Up next, Cash ‘N’ Guns.

Stand and shoot

Before you share the loot!

Chubby Geri, aka Lotus (my character)

From Mafia Ruffians, we decided to become sailors, as we had the game Lifeboats.

Aye aye Captain!

Ok, how many have we had already? Hmm… I’ve lost count. But I do know up next was The Simpsons Clue.

I have to admit that on Boxing Day, Geri was not thinking much, because I was super sloooow…

But I do know that with just 10 minutes to go, we really knew how to make use of the time.

Like Jason said, we had our ‘all time favourite’ Snorta!

Moo… =)
