Shopaholic

I wonder what is the allure of chick lit, but I have to say that it can be a really interesting read.

If I remembered correctly, I was first introduced to this series by Qiuling. And as much as I really enjoyed it, sad to say, I do not think that I’ve read all of the books in the series. Anyway, with regards to the book, I must say that I really enjoyed reading the letters. It’s amazing what nonsensical yet hilarious scenarios the protagonist can come up with!

Hmm… I really wonder what’s the power of such books. Is it because it usually has a ‘happy ever after’ ending, a place where we can escape to from the worries and toil of our lives? Or because it plays with our mind when it comes to fantasy or make believe, that we would dream/wish of us being in such a situation, overcoming all odds and finally winning that coveted prize?

Ha, either way, I do not mind occasionally perusing such literature. Its light read and bimbotic ways is very often welcomed by me when I need a break from the ever mounting workload =)

My Time with the SIA Girls

Thinking back on the times spent with Alicia, I realised that I miss my friends a lot. So much so that I cannot wait to be back home.

Anyway, April was another month where Alicia made her way down south to Sydney. And along with her came two other trainees who she kindly invited to join us. Hmm… I think SIA should consider hiring me as their Sydney tour guide. I’ve lost count on the number of times I brought those girls around =)

I decided this time to bring the girls to Sydney Fish Market, where we indulged in sumptuous seafood. Considering that there were 4 of us, I thought that we should have bought slightly more than a seafood platter for 2. But luckily, I bought only the platter, for it was more than enough for all 4 of us!

Alicia and me at the Anzac Bridge

Then on we went to shop!! But alas, throughout the time when we were out, the skies were gloomy, and it rained, making Alicia and I huddle under one puny umbrella to escape from it all.

That was when Alicia got this crazy idea to take a picture of this fountain at Darling Harbour. Save my poor brolly!!

A feasting day it really was, as dinner was at Seoul-Ria, a Korean restaurant at Chinatown. As usual, being the girls that we are, we love photo-whoring =)

And finally, here’s me with the two really gorgeous trainees. Haha, as you can see, they went back with their hands full of shopping bags. Luckily for them, the day that they came was also a late night shopping day, where all shops were opened till 9pm when the normal closing time is at 5. Either way, it was really quite fun bringing them around. Hmm… Maybe I can really consider being a part-time tour guide in future, hahaha =)

The Remains of the Day

April 23, 2007 nahele Leave a comment

Life is such a long journey, it is important to occasionally take time off to reflect upon the path that we have tread upon till where we are currently at. And I believe, a good book would aid you in that aspect.

I love the nightfall. The shadows that give you cover, away from the prying eyes of the world while you are immersed in your thoughts. The coolness of the breeze to remind you that there is a whole lot more of a journey ahead of us. The shining stars that willingly provide companionship to the lone ranger battling against his trials. And the ever changing moon to remind us that ironically, change is the only constant.

The evening’s the best part of the day. You’ve done your day’s work. Now you can put your feet up and enjoy it.

Yes, I have done my work, I’ve earned my share of peace and solace. So how about you? Do you take time to relax and reflect upon your life’s journey?

Sometimes, I really wonder how much should one put aside their feelings, only because it is deem the best way to go about your day’s work. They say that work and emotions do not go well hand in hand. Yet, where is the balance? Wouldn’t it make one seem more like an emotionless robot if he casts all his emotions aside as logic dictate him to be, even though one is extremely meticulous and dilligent? Even if you have managed to accomplish your duties with flying colours your duties, how much of a achievement is that, if you have no one to share with, because of your lack of emotional display to remind others that you are as much human as they are?

Perhaps, then, there is something to his advice that I should cease looking back so much, that I should adopt a more positive outlook and try to make the best of what remains of my day. After all, what can we ever gain in forever looking back and blaming ourselves if our lives have not turned out quite as we might have wished?

That is why, I believe in carefully assessing all possibilities, for when one chooses their option, there is no room for regret. Besides, should we care about how others view us, as long as we are satisfied ourselves?

And if some of us are prepared to sacrifice much in life in order to pursue such aspirations, surely that is in itself, whatever the outcome, cause for pride and contentment.

I believe that there should be a balance in it all. But as simple as it might sound, often, it is the simplest of things that are the hardest to achieve in life. Still, it does not deny the fact that we should continue trying, and try we must, till we are able to achieve our goals, or at least answer to ourselves.

It seems like dim sum is always on our minds whenever we decide to head out for hearty meals. This time off we went to Marigold for a lunch celebration of our dear housemate Ying Ying’s birthday!

Happy birthday Ying!

11-13 April 2007

Life is a long journey.

Sometimes, we are faced with what seems to be a difficult task.

That even with a pal, it still seems impossible.

But remember that there is always light at the end of the tunnel,

A silver lining in the clouds.

That no matter if you are going up,

Or heading down,

A friend is always there to hear you out,

And friends sometimes it might even be.

Till then, let us enjoy a quiet time or two,

As we walk hand in hand to bravely face another brand new day.
